Genealogical and Historical Sites

Rye (NH) Historical Society

Rye, New Hampshire is our home town, as Capt. John Locke made his home within the current town boundaries. The collection and Rye Town Museum contain numerous items of interest to Capt. John Locke descendants.

New Hampshire Historical Society

The New Hampshire Historical Society contains many items from New Hampshire's past including Captain John Locke's sword which he used as Captain of the local Militia. They also have the sickle he used to try and defend himself against the Indians who killed him. As of 2011, the sickle is on permanent display in the museum. To view the sword, please call ahead to schedule an appointment for a private viewing.

New England Historic Genealogical Society

The website of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, the nation's oldest and largest genealogical society. One of the country's richest sources on family history, with particular emphasis on local family history. Excellent for genealogists.
